BFF test: how well does your best friend really know you?

A free BFF test for best friends. You answer and set one trap, they guess, and a split-heart necklace keeps the score: right guesses pull it together, misses drop links, and the last card decides whether it clicks. Send one link to every friend and rank them on your board. No sign-up.

How it works

  1. Add your name, then pick Send a link or one phone.
  2. Answer every card in your own voice, honestly, and set your trap on the one card you think nobody will get.
  3. Your friend guesses what you said. Right guesses pull the halves together and hang a charm on the chain. Misses drop links, and three right in a row mend one. Lose the last link and the chain snaps for good.
  4. The last card is the clasp card. If the chain held and they get it right, it clicks, and they go up a rung.
  5. Read the misses out loud. Then send the same link to the next friend and see who ranks highest on your board, or swap on one phone and play new cards.

What makes this BFF test different

Most BFF tests give you a number and stop. This one puts something at stake on every card. You start with spare links on the chain, and every miss drops one. Lose them all and the chain snaps, for good, so the last card can’t save you. Get three right in a row while the chain holds and a link comes back.

The one answering has a job too. Your trap sits on one card, and your friend finds out which one when they hit it. The round starts silly, moves on to plain facts about you, gets warmer, then ends on the clasp card, one sincere question with no joke to hide behind. A 7 with a click ranks level with a 9 without one, and that’s usually when the conversation starts.

  • A right guess in the BFF test: the card is stamped Right and the two halves of the necklace step closer on the chain, with charms hanging behind them.
A right guessThe halves step together and a charm hangs on the chain.
The last link dropped: the chain breaks in the middle, one half falls, the screen turns red and the word Snapped is stamped across the card.
The snapThe last link goes, and one half goes with it.
The clasp card: the room goes dark and the game shows what getting the last card right or wrong is worth.
The clasp cardThe room goes dark, and you see what the last card is worth.
  • A split-heart best friends necklace, one half pink and one blue, pulled together with the clasp shut.
ClickThe chain held and the clasp card was right. Up one rung.
The two halves of the necklace hanging apart, with the clasp still open.
No clickThe chain held, but the clasp card was missed. No lift.
The necklace with its chain snapped on one side and the two halves apart.
SnappedThe last link went. The clasp has nothing to hang from.

What’s a good BFF test score?

Every card has four answers, so blind guessing gets about one in four: 2 or 3 of 10. A score well above that usually means you’ve been paying attention. These are the ranks on a 10-card round, and your score counts every card, the clasp card included. Get the clasp card right with the chain still holding and it lifts you one rung, whatever your score, and that’s the only way to reach Ride or die. On a 20-card round, double the numbers. The ranks are jokes, so don’t take them to heart.

    1. 10
Full BFFThat’s not friendship, that’s surveillance.
    2. Clasp lift
Ride or dieThe clasp clicked. There’s no getting rid of them now.
    3. 8 or 9
Next of kinKnows far too much. Keep them close.
    4. 6 or 7
Spare keyTrusted with the house. Not yet with the secrets.
    5. 4 or 5
Plus-oneGreat at parties. Shaky on the details.
    6. 2 or 3
Group chatMostly here for the memes, and it shows.
    7. 1
Friend of a friendAre you two sure you’ve met?
    8. 0
Total strangerZero. Blind guessing would have scored higher. Impressive.

Ride or die has no score of its own. It’s where 8 or 9 ends up when the clasp card, which is already in your score, was right and the chain held. The clasp lifts any other score one rung the same way.

BFF test questions: all 82 cards

Every card in the game is here, with its answers and the line you get to argue about if the guess misses. They’re written in your friend’s voice, because that’s how you have to think when you guess. Hard facts is the drawer to open first. Those are the ones a friend either knows or doesn’t.

For slower questions to talk through, there’s a whole deck of questions for friends.
  • Hard facts: 23 cards

Hard BFF test questions: the clasp cards

One of these ends every round. They’re the hardest cards here, because they need a friend who’s been listening. Print them or the whole deck and use them anywhere: a long drive, a birthday, a couch. Each of you writes down an answer, then you compare.

  • All 82 cards as a PDF
    • On a really bad day, what I need is…

      • Space, then a check-in
      • Company, no questions asked
      • To talk it all through
      • A laugh, any laugh

When did you last get this right?

    • I feel most looked after when someone…

      • Stays for a long catch-up
      • Simply turns up
      • Remembers the small stuff
      • Makes the plan for me

What’s the last small thing that meant a lot?

    • What I secretly want to hear more often is…

      • “I’m proud of you”
      • “I miss you”
      • “You’re so funny”
      • “You were right”

      Say it now. Out loud.

    • I show a friend I love them by…

      • Sending them things all day
      • Turning up when it counts
      • Insulting them warmly
      • Actually saying it

When did you last notice it?

    • What I hide from most people is…

      • How silly I really am
      • How tired I am
      • How much I care
      • How nervous I get

Is there anything else nobody else gets to see?

    • If I could keep one thing from this friendship, it’s…

      • Being able to say anything
      • Never needing to explain
      • The inside jokes
      • The late-night talks

      What would you keep?

    • I get huge news. The first to hear it is…

      • Family, then my best friend
      • Nobody, not for a day
      • Everyone, all at once
      • My best friend, within a minute

What was the last big news you shared?

    • This friendship has taught me…

      • To worry less
      • To say what I mean
      • To laugh at myself
      • To turn up for people

      And what have you learned?

How long does it take to become best friends?

Longer than you’d think. A 2018 University of Kansas study by Jeffrey Hall estimated roughly 50 hours together to go from acquaintance to casual friend, about 90 hours to become friends, and more than 200 hours to become close friends. Hanging out and joking around counted. Hours spent working side by side counted for much less.

How to quiz your friends

Answer once, then choose Send a link and post it in the group chat or send it to each friend. Everyone guesses on their own phone, with no app and no account, and everyone who plays lands on your board with their score, up to 50 people. The link stays live for 30 days. Sitting together, one phone is enough: answer, pass it over, and no peeking.

Questions people ask

What does BFF stand for?

Best friends forever. A BFF test is a quiz for friends to see how well they really know each other.

Is the BFF test the same as a best friend test?

Yes, it’s a best friend test: one of you answers, the other guesses. The difference here is the necklace, which makes every guess count.

How do I do a BFF test with my friend online?

Choose Send a link, answer your side, and send it. Your friend guesses on their own phone and sees the result straight away. Their score lands on your board, which you can open any time on the phone you started on. No sign-up.

Can I send this bestie quiz to all my friends?

Yes. One link works for up to 50 friends, for 30 days. Everyone who plays lands on your board, ranked by how many they got right, so you can see who knows you best.

Is it a friendship question game or a quiz?

Both. It’s a friendship question game with a score: the cards start the conversation, and every miss comes with a line to talk about.

Is the BFF test accurate?

It’s a game, not a measure of your friendship. It counts how many answers your friend guessed, which says more about what you’ve told each other than how much you care.

How many questions are there?

Choose 10 or 20 for each round, from 82 cards. About a third of every round is plain facts, the cards change between rounds, and the last one is always a clasp card.

What’s the trap?

While you answer, you can put your trap on one card, the one you’re sure your friend will miss. It changes nothing in the score. They just find out when they hit it, and you both see at the end whether they walked in or dodged it.

Can we take the test the other way round?

Yes. On one phone, tap Swap at the end and the guesser becomes the one being guessed, with new cards. Then the game crowns a winner, and a tie goes to whoever clicked the clasp.

Do you keep our answers?

On one phone, nothing leaves the phone. With a link, your first name and answers are kept for 30 days so your friends can guess them, then deleted. The link itself also carries your answers, in the part of the address that never reaches a server, so your friend’s phone can mark each guess. If our server can’t be reached, the link carries everything and we store nothing.
